The historic streets surrounding the Andersen quarter are among the most attractive parts of Odense.
Small colourful houses, cobbled streets and quiet courtyards offer a glimpse of a city that looked very different before industrialisation. Because the area is compact, it is best explored slowly and without a strict route.
Continue towards the centre and you will find churches, squares, pedestrian streets and a mixture of architecture representing different periods in the city’s history.
St. Canute’s Cathedral – Sankt Knuds Kirke – is one of the city’s most important historic buildings. The Gothic cathedral is named after the Danish King Canute IV, who was killed in Odense in 1086 and later canonised.
